Joining Winchester u3a

If you have a particular interest that you would like to pursue within one of our groups or you are keen to get involved with our social activities we would love to welcome you to Winchester u3a.

Want more information before you decide to join?

A list of groups that are active is available showing when they meet. Our constitution is available to read. If you can't find all the information you want on this website, contact any of the committee members on the page, and they will be only too pleased to help.

Who can join?

Membership is open to all retired (or semi-retired) people and no qualifications are required.

How do I join?

Print off a Membership Form and a Standing Order Form, fill in your details and send the forms to the Membership Secretary, Marion Schiesser, 25 Hanover Lodge, 37A St Cross Road, Winchester, SO23 9PQ. Please enclose a cheque for £8 to cover your first (part) year's membership until next 1st April; instead of a cheque, a payment may be made directly to the Winchester u3a bank account; please include your name as a reference.  If you would prefer to set up a standing order yourself at your bank rather than sending in the form, this is also acceptable; details for both alternatives are on the standing order form.

What happens next?

Marion will answer any questions you may have on Winchester u3a and show you how to contact the activity groups you are interested in joining. Once your membership application has been accepted you may join any group that has a vacancy and you may take part in any other u3a activity.

How much will it cost?

Our membership fee is £8.00 per year, payable on 1st April each year. To simplify our administration we do ask that you pay your membership fee annually by standing order. Your membership fee covers the cost of affiliation to the Third Age Trust and the day-to-day running expenses of the Winchester u3a, including monthly meetings. You will also receive our quarterly newsletter and, if you would like it, the national u3a magazine. A few activity groups make small additional charges to cover particular expenses such as speakers, materials, or travel costs, and, in addition, we may ask for a contribution to our costs if you choose to attend certain of our social events and outings.
