Art Appreciation

We meet on the fourth Thursday of each month. The sun and colour of summer was reflected in the group’s choices in the form of Feast of San Rocco, by Canaletto; Glastonbury, by Alce Harfield; Feast of Santa Anita, by Diego Rivera. These works gave us the colour of Venice, Mexico and the lit-up night sky at Glastonbury.
We were delighted to be introduced to the painter Joe Scarborough through his picture “Coal, a Celebration”, showing the community of a mining village against a grassy background above the pit.

The theme “Flow” elicited a very eclectic response with: Birds and Fish tessellation by M C Escher; Leaping Hare by Barry Flanagan (whose works can be seen at Roche Court near Salisbury); Cello with Bees by Bill Woodrow (also at Roche Court); Flight into Egypt mosaic by Cappella Palatina in Palermo; Lament for Icarus by Herbert James Draper; Flight of Magnolia by Paul Nash; Totes Meer by Paul Nash.
